The BARC Dunlop Motorsport News Saloon Car Championship has once again enjoyed an action packed season starting at a snowy Brands Hatch in March and concluding at a waterlogged Brands in November via visits to Lydden Hill, Silverstone, Snetterton and Castle Combe. The large grids and varied machinery on show have once again proved to be highly entertaining and the races have been as close fought as ever yet always contested in good spirit.
Throughout the season the Clubman has been involved in battles for both class and overall honours in the championship. The final rounds of the year saw the Clubman clinch second place overall in the championship behind the Class D Peugeot of Richard Brent – a frequent on track adversary of the Clubman having been involved in some of the best racing of the year at Lydden Hill in a lights to flag battle with the Clubman at the June meeting.
As well as taking second place overall the Clubman took the Class E title winning the season long battle of the Minis, Class E may be home to the smaller engined cars but the racing is amongst the most competitive in the field and provides a significant amount of the on track action. The Class E cars can also be relied upon to bloody the noses of cars from higher classes and have proved highly popular with spectators throughout the season thanks to their giant killing antics.
The Clubmans achievement in taking the class title cannot be underestimated and it is testimony to the engineering skill and hard work that has gone into preparing the car throughout the year that the Clubman scored at every round and only suffered one DNF throughout the season (due to accident damage after an unavoidable collision). The team would like to thank all their sponsors for their support throughout the year and hopes to welcome them all on board for next season. Thanks also go to the marshals and race officials that give so much of their own time to ensure that the race meetings take place and run smoothly.
