With heavy rain forecast the team prepared the mighty Clubman for a potential wet meeting at Brands Hatch. KAD had re-geared the final drive in an attempt to pull 5th through the entry into clearways which in the dry should be flat out. However qualifying saw a very damp and oily circuit but a respectable time of 55.4 saw us slot behind a rapid Peugeot 205, our main rival to beat for a class win. With the circuit semi wet slicks were chosen.

A good start saw our Mini hounding the French machine for lap after lap with the gap closing as the Avon slicks were pushed to the limit of their grip. Suddenly off the circuit went the Peugeot, straight into the kitty litter at Paddock Hill bend. With two laps to go the pressure was now off and the Mini had a trouble free run to the flag. Interestingly we had sneaked fastest lap in class – all round ‘a great result’.

The second race saw the heavens open and 6mm of rain fell in just 1 hour. Another good start lead to a titanic battle with a Cosworth from class A but we still managed a final finishing position of 2nd in class.

The crew were wet through and as if this wasn’t enough for a days work Bill was asked to do a legality check on various Mighty and Super Mighty Minis. They were also holding a round of their Championship here at Brands Hatch.

A Great result should see our Mini leading the class in this very High Profile Dunlop Motorsport News Championship. Check out the latest standings here.

The next round for the team is the SEMSEC series based at Lydden Hill on the 9th July.
