The Bill Richards Racing Metro special saloon is now approaching the end of an extensive overhaul and update process. The Cosworth BDH engine that powered the machine for a number of years has now been replaced by a 2 litre Ford Duratec unit. Engine development on the Duratec has been carried out in conjunction with Cosworth and Piper Cams. The Duratec unit is now providing a significant power gain over the previously installed BDH.

In order to transfer this power to the track Quaife have produced a bespoke gearbox (a modified Vauxhall unit), the one-off design was required in order to fit the engine and gearbox within the Metros narrow spaceframe. The front end of the chassis has been extensively modified to accept the new engine and gearbox combination with new engine bearers and mounts being fabricated. With the rebuild now approaching its final stages the team is looking forward to the Metros return to the circuit with testing currently planned for the end of March.
