A week after the teams clean sweep during the BARC DMN and Fastest Mini In The World races the team was back at Lydden Hill for the latest round of the SEMSEC championship. The weather was once again glorious with the circuit bathed in sunshine throughout the meeting.

Qualifying

A trouble free qualifying session saw the Clubman clock the second fastest time to secure a front row slot on the grid alongside a Sylva Riot sportscar. The Clubmans pace saw it qualify ahead of a number of Caterhams much to their consternation!

Race 1

The Clubman took its place on the front row of the grid in anticipation of the start, as ever for SEMSEC meetings standing starts would be used to get the races underway. As the lights went out the Clubman was mugged by a pair of Caterhams on the run to the first corner, the lightweight cars clearly seeking revenge for the Clubmans impudent qualifying performance. Despite their superior start the Caterhams weren’t able to make a clean break and were soon under pressure from the marauding Clubman.

Quickly despatching the first Caterham the Clubman immediately set about closing down the second of the rapid sportscars. With the gap whittled down to nothing the Clubman loomed ominously in the Caterhams mirrors before executing a text book overtaking manoeuvre to retake second place. Once ahead of the Caterhams the Clubman was able to pull away from them but by this time the Riot had made good its escape and the Clubman took the chequered flag in second position overall.

Race 2

The second race of the day saw the Clubman starting from pole position but the advantage did not last as the Clubman was once again beaten to the first corner – this time a spaceframed Starlet and a BRR powered Maguire Mini got the jump on the Clubman. Slotting in behind the Starlet the Clubman sought to regain the lost places, this cause was made significantly easier as the Starlet span at the North Bend Hairpin allowing the Clubman to take second position.

With the Starlet out of the picture the Clubman was able to close the gap to the Maguire Mini ahead and was soon latched onto its bootlid. There followed a swift bout of tit for tat overtaking with the Clubman passing the Maguire only to see the Spaceframed machine regain the position a lap later. Another fine pass saw the Clubman retake the lead but the duelling pair had been slowing each other whilst they battled and an Escort had closed in and joined the fray.

The battle continued with the Escort briefly taking the lead before the Clubman once again took over at the head of the field. From this point onwards the Clubman was able to retain its advantage and held the lead to the chequered flag to take a fine overall win.

The team can once again be very pleased with the Clubmans performance throughout the meeting. The car out qualified some impressive machinery and was able to convert the strong qualifying performance into a fine brace of race results taking an overall win and two class wins.
